The original East Indiaman Gotheborg ran on ground at the entrance to Gothenburg on 12 September 1745. The ship was fully laden with goods such as tea, porcelain, silk and spices, and had almost reached dock after her third voyage to China, which had lasted a full 30 months.

About This Cartridge

When it was found in December 1984, there was not much left of the ship according to the divers who found it at Hunnebadan, 900 metres from New Elfsborg Fortress. Nevertheless, there was a great deal to rediscover. A marine archaeological excavation lasting from 1986 to 1992 opened the door to a long gone century, adventurous voyages and trade with China.
All men and women who died in the cold water outside Gothenburg at 12 September 1745 were accounted for, except for two men from the crew. They were two young lieutenants: Mikael Johansson and Samuel Jacobsson. Somehow they disappeared that stormy autumn night in 1745 and there were rumors that they took a whole coffin of gold with them. But soon all rumors and gossip were lost in the tides of age.

Starting Location

You are standing in Gotheburg on the remains of a Bastiljon in the 1700th century fortress of Gothenburg. Over 210 years later, in the spring of 1947, a young girl discovered the nowadays so called Mikael and Samuel letters in a letter box at an addict ..
