A quick tour around some of the features of Johnstone Park in Geelong, with some "virtual" tasks thrown in for fun. You will need to accomplish these tasks in order to obtain the coordinates for the final physical geocache.
The creation of this Wherigo cartridge is further evidence that emus like to be on the cutting-edge of technology.
About This Cartridge
A quick tour around some of the features of Johnstone Park in Geelong, with some "virtual" tasks thrown in for fun. You will need to accomplish these tasks in order to obtain the coordinates for the final physical geocache. Allow 30-45 minutes for the tour, or more if you wish to rest and enjoy a snack while you're here.
Whereigo is still in development by Groundspeak so from time to time you may see it lock up on your unit. Some Wherigo developers have suggested that you save your Cartridge after any interaction with it (e.g. picking up an item) so you don't have to re-start the adventure from the beginning if your unit does lock up. Please ensure you have the latest version of the Whereigo Player loaded on your PDA.
This Cartridge has been completed using both the Garmin Colorado and Pocket PC. Emulator use is permitted, to encourage geocachers to try this new technology even if they don't have the required hardware yet.
The associated geocache is GC1BCA3. Have fun!
Starting Location
Commencing outside the Geelong Library, Johnstone Park is within walking distance of either Geelong Station or the main city centre. There are many places to park your car nearby, but be aware that it is "metered" for much of the week.

While in Geelong visiting the inlaws, we stepped out for awhile to complete this Wherigo, I have been waiting for a while to do this one, after completing 2 others, this was the only one left to do in Vic.
This one did not let us down, it was a bit more involved than the others which was great, a lot of fun, well worth while giving it a go.
Thanks Mr. Emu.

Well this was my second effort here. I completed the cartridge but for some reason overlooked the cache itself. Returned over easter and completed the cartridge again before finally signing the log. Thanks to Mr Emu whom I have completed a few caches this weekend.

Dec09: Well our first Wherigo cache attempt. With the geowife and her Oregon and myself with the Colorado, and the three geodaughters in toe, we all set off on this epic adventure. What a story of emu and his tall tails. It was a fantastic adventure and we all learnt many things around this great park setting, that we would not normally stop and consider. Unfortunately, not banana for emu. Found the correct Gz and what we believe was the hidding spot, even checked with the spoiler photo which confirmed our first deduction, but alas no cache was found. Thank you Mr Emu for a great adventure, we thouroughly enjoyed ourselves even with no smilie.
Jan10: Finally we have cracked our first Wherigo Cache......YAH.....After a previous failed attempt (no from being unable to do the wherigo bit, but failing in finding the cache at the Gz) we came ready to conquer. Thanks to Emu for a wonder experience and Snakecatcher for his email a friend help line....A very clever hide, but fun all the same.

To me this was the best executed Whereigo yet. No crashes (for the first time!), the waypoint zones are large enough to not be annoying. Had a lot of fun doing this one. And learned some remarkable facts about emus :-)

What more can I say? Wow! The kids had lots of fun with this one. Obviously, it is our first Wherigo cache. We love the concept and the park.
The final coords to the cache was a bit off. Should have spent more time guessing the hiding spot but the sky was threatening to pour. It was pretty obvious but we ended up accessing the hint from Mr Emu.
Thanks for bringing us there.
