Welcome to Greenwood Cemetery, known widely in the early 20th century as The Beautiful City Of The Dead! This Wherigo will take you on an interactive guided tour of a few of this cemetery's notable sites. At the end of your tour, you will be directed to a geocache. Once you've earned your smiley, feel free to explore the rest of this fantastic cemetery on your own! A flashlight might be helpful for one of the stages.

About This Cartridge

TIPS: Start with a full battery, and save often! If you have trouble getting a location to "trigger," wait a bit for the game to "catch up" to you. Sometimes there is a lag.

ANDROID USERS: Install the free WhereYouGo app. Install the Firefox browser and another free app called "Download All Files" (DAF). Visit this Wherigo page in Firefox, and download the cartridge, using DAF, to the /external_sd/WhereYouGo/ folder. You can then open it in WhereYouGo. You should also install the "GPS Status" app. Run it to get a GPS lock before you start. Leave it running in the background to keep your GPS from switching off by itself. Make sure "GPS" is set to "ON" within WhereYouGo.

UNLOCKING CARTRIDGE: If Wherigo.com does not accept your completion code, try using only the first 15 digits.

Starting Location

The starting location of this Wherigo is the main (north) gate of Greenwood Cemetery, at the southern terminus of Church St. This is the only open entrance to the cemetery.

What interesting History there is in this beautiful old cemetery! I must be turtle slow because I did walk the whole cartridge and it took 2 hours, but then I wasn't in any hurry. Any time there is a 60 degree day in mid-December, I will lolly-gag around outside. The final is in great shape - nice and dry in its hidey hole. This cartridge ran beautifully on my Oregon 550. Thanks for all the time you put into building this one!

I had problems once the next stage loaded in. It would not direct me to the next stage. I finally figured out I had to punch on the parking coordinate and then punch on the stage and it worked just fine.
Greet old cemetery with a lot of history. Learned some interesting history.

#4476 @ 11:34 AM. We concluded our Memorial Day holiday weekend in Decatur with a full day targeting favorite caches; and "The Beautiful City of the Dead" was the eighth of seventeen smileys. We took nothing and left a signature "Cache Royale" token. Thank you, Wes_and_Tara!
