Transported through time to a prehistoric land, you now need to find your way back.

About This Cartridge

This wherigo needs to be completed for the Wherigo cache GC2W5GH.

Finding yourself at a loose end one day you decide to go for a walk and have something to eat in the great outdoors. You pack your rucksack then head off to explore......

This is not a circular route so you will need to allow about 2-3 hours to include returning to the start.

Starting Location

Starting point is the car park at Hound Tor on Dartmoor, Devon.

What a gorgeous evening for a walk around Hound Tor - lets have a go at trying to do our first Wherigo!
We were using two iphones - a 4s running ios 7 and an SE running ios10 - and the Wherigo app. The first hurdle was to understand that you dont just search for and find the the information on the app - you actually have to download a cartridge! Non-IT savvy hubby saved the day here as I would have been off to the moors with an empty app left to my own devices! Not really knowing what a cartridge was or how to recongnise it didn't help. However, we succeeded - hubby worked out how to download directly onto his phone whilst I managed it via itunes.
I had read all the information from previous cachers experiences so we knew to switch off our wifi and "play" the cartridge as we entered the car park. We followed these instructions to the letter and the cartridge began as it should and we set off.
Our first steps up to Hound Tor were a bit faltering. We didnt really know what we were supposed to be doing or where on the app we were supposed to be looking. Hubby's antiquated hardwarde suddenly burst into life and we were on our way - but mine wasn't doing anything at all! In the end I had to skip nearly all the way back to the car park to enter the "zone" and then I was back on track too!
And so we wandered around a very familiar place with our heads stuck in our phones - getting stuck in "zones" and wandering around in ever decreasing circles but all the time we were getting the hang of it and better at leaving each zone for the next part of the adventure.
I think we just about got a good grip on the procedure by the time we arrived at GZ and we found the cache! We have an unluck code but not sure what to do with it!
But thankyou - for a great learning experience which we thoroughly enjoyed on a perfect evening up on the moors.

additional edit - uploaded the GWS file after retreiving it from iTunes - and have successfully "unlocked" - i.e completed the wherigo!
Wheres the next one :)

We enjoyed this our second wherigo - we used an iPhone and all went well - except for the high ferns that are still there!

Enjoyed playing "A Moment in Time". The cartridge worked very well on my Samsung S6. Hound Tor and surrounds are a great location.
Well worth the effort of learning how to run Whereigo cartridges if you haven't done one before!

First trip out caching with gullsrock on Dartmoor today and with this Wherigo our main target, we wanted to try and get as many types as possible. We both found it really fun and interesting and we definitely got a workout! Thanks for putting so much effort into it.

Technical wise, we both used the app on our iPhones just incase one crashed but they were both fine. The only problem was a slight lag after reading the instructions from a point before the next waypoint loaded but being the first Wherigo we've done, we didn't know if this was an expected loading time anyway.

Also got the road trip souvenir for visiting a cache with more than 10 FP and I will be adding to those points once I've logged the rest of the caches from today. Thanks! #318
