The History of Hawthorn 1

GC find #1076. Wherigo find #3. Found @ 15:10 with sog12.
I'd been in contact with sog12 a fortnight ago about perhaps meeting up over the school holidays to grab a cache or two. With today being the last day of that window, I rang to see if he was available.
He was, so a plan was enacted to meet at the start coordinates at 14:30 to explore the historical wonders of Hawthorn. Before I left home, I downloaded the Wherigo cartridge into both my Android phone and the Oregon (as a backup), just as well I did as when I arrived, sog12 was unsuccessfully trying to do the same with his iPhone. I've found that downloading a cartridge directly to the phone simply doesn't work - I've always had to go via a PC.
We started up the Wherigo player on the Oregon (loaned to sog12), and the WhereYouGo App on my Android and began to move through the required zones, becoming enlightened about the historical locations, and entering answers to the questions.
Not too surprisingly, as he was unfamiliar with the operation of the beast, not long into the process something was pressed on the Oregon which caused the game to exit. Rather than go back to the start position (even though it was quite close by) we decided to forge on using just the phone.
Just before we left each location, I saved the progress so we could easily continue if anything went wrong. However the precaution proved unnecessary as nothing did. Better safe than sorry though.
All in all, it was a pretty smooth process, with no crashes on the phone. However we did have a few places where a zone re-triggered after we'd completed the section, so we had to re-answer the questions. It wasn't a big problem as luckily I'm not a goldfish so I have a memory which spans longer than 3 seconds. We also found that some of the zones triggered in different positions comparing the two devices (for the short time we used both).
We arrived at GZ after about 40 minutes where sog12 made the find. On the way back to our respective vehicles, we stopped at the hotel across from the start coords for a refreshing beverage, before going our separate ways.
I liked the format of the tour, with lots of interesting information presented at each stop. It's just a pity that most of the places we visited are no longer representative of the structures which once graced the area.
Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.

A favourite point from me.
Perhaps this will give me some motivation to stop procrastinating and finish my second wherigo (and maybe some ideas for a third).
