Spend time in Salem visiting some historical spots on the way to the cache. This is a somewhat quick 12 stop tour of some historical spots in downtown Salem. It should take less then an hour to play & find the cache, but you may want to spend a bit more time checking out each of the historic spots!

About This Cartridge

A geo-tour of some famous stops along the Salem Trail. After completing the tour you will be given instructions on how to find the geocache.

This is a super simple tour based wherigo. The next zone will open when you enter the zone you are looking for. No need to answer questions or pick up items, you just need to be in the current zone (within 15 ft) to trigger the next. After you enter that 15 ft zone buffer, click on menu and your next location will be available. At the end you will be given coordinates and a hint to the geocache location.

Goes with geocache (visit link)

Starting Location

Witch House

This was our first experience of a whereigo adventure and we found it really enjoyable. This cartridge gave us a good introduction to Salem and we got a geocache at the end....BONUS!!

Rather than reading the description, X-Bat and I just headed to the start co-ords, which were at the opposite end of town from where we had parked... So we passed many of the stages on the way. Oops!
At stage 2, we stopped to watch the show and I turned off the Garmin - loosing the start - so back to stage 1 and a quick re-start...
When we finally got to sign the log, our feet were hurting and we were ready for the ice cream shop that we passed on the way :-)
All the same, a great walk through the town and major sights. Sadly not enough time to look at the Intercache in town - Next time!

This was a very nice tour of Salem. There was nothing tricky or complicated, just a straightforward trip to some of the highlights of the area. We started down a wrong route to stage #11 and had to make a correction. We like to walk slowly and enjoy the scenery, and there was plenty of that here, so we took about 2 hours to complete the task. Bravo Bumble!

Found all stops quickly and easily. Just knew where to go. This was very nicely done, and enjoyed the quick trip around places we walk by quite frequently. Tried to enter my code, but it wouldn't take.

I grew up in Salem but moved away in 2001 when I joined the Navy. After seeing a local cacher (TraditionalBill) from down here in South Jersey had recently gone up to my old stomping ground I was determined to go up and reclaim my throne by completing all the caches he did and then some. (Not really too difficult as he pretty much only does NON-traditionals lol)

As I started this tour, I was determined to set a land speed record on it since I figured that I already knew where everything was located. I knew about everything except for the bell by the visitor center. That must have been placed there in the last few years. Needless to say it did take me quite a while despite knowing exactly where to go simply due to the distance covered here. Just walking down to the lighthouse and back is the better part of a mile!

It was a nice walk though. I actually took a little detour by the customs house though. If you walk up Orange St to Curtis St the 2 story gray house that is 3rd back from Derby St was actually in my family for nearly 100 years. 5 years ago the last remaining family member residing in the house passed away which meant the house needed to be sold and divided between his heirs. It was sad to see it go. It was like a time capsule inside while we were cleaning it out. Him and his brothers were all WWII vets so I naturally got all their military paraphernalia. The new owner has definitely done some work on it!

Alright this has gone on long enough and I am starting to ramble about my trip down memory lane. I would recommend this cache for everyone! 5 stars for sure!
