This wherigo will take you on a tour of Dodecanese Blvd, a working waterfront street. Here you will see sponge boats with their load of sponges drying out to be ready for sale
About This Cartridge
This region, with the bayous dumping into the Gulf of Mexico, was first settled by farmers and fishermen in the late 1870’s. Some of the new settlers saw tarpon jumping out of the water and so named it Tarpon Springs. John Cheyney launched his first fishing boat in the 1890’s. It was soon discovered that the waters were rich with highly sought after sponges. The area is now a focal point of Greek culture. Tarpon Springs has the highest percentage of Greek Americans of any city in the US. The geocache companion is GC5RFTP.
Starting Location
Starts at a mural at the east end of Dodesanese Blvd. It is suggested to save each zone before proceeding to the next zone.

Did this wherigo today on the way to the 15 years event in Tarpon Springs. Took the bike out early on a Sunday. Nicely done. Found all the zones, the GPS only crashed once between the river and the boat yard stages but saved and good once we restarted.
Thanks,
Seekerfamily

We really liked this wherigo. It took us on a nice tour of the area and provided many interesting facts. We did it early morning so there was no one around and plenty of parking. The cartridge worked perfectly on our Oregon. Thanks for the fun!!
