About This Cartridge

You are Queen Aethelflaed of Mercia, and the date is 913. The Danes and Norsemen live east of here, and regularly go a'viking into your lands. This has happened today. Your task is to check how big the Viking army is, and then collect enough of your own people to defeat them in battle. You may play this game in 'easy', 'medium' or 'hard' mode, choose depending on how long you want the game to last.

Starting Location

Cannock Chase Country Park Visitors' Centre on Marquis Drive.

Had a great time on Cannock chase for Three weeks !!!
We did the hard route and found all the characters the map was necessary. We didn't find the cache which was a great disappointment and I think it may have been muggled as we found the fir tree and the silver birches but just no cache ? Was it just us though ?
Anyway it was well worth doing and If you have little ones with you don't forget the Gruffalo hunt GPS walk is not far away and its just for them ;-) If the cache is still in place post a note and we will return just to tick it off the list :-)

Arranged to attempt this wherigo with SausageHunters and Phuketlady, We met up at the co-ords and began our quest of gathering our Army. After 3 hours of walking round the 3 routes we had gathered what we thought was a large army to fight the Vikings. Once at the battle site we aquired the scouts and set about defeating the vikings and a huge succes it was too. We sent them packing and then raided their treasure.

A thoroughly enjoyable wherigo and on the hardest difficulty too.

Second visit and after failing to defeat the vikings having only travelled the blue route a trip around the yellow route got us a big enough army to do the business.

Only managed to navigate correctly after making several waypoints at home to follow in the field, which worked a lot better than my first blind attempt.

We set off and soon found the battleground. Wandered around for ages and decided to call it a day. On our way back to the car we stumbled upon the three witches who pointed us in the right direction.
Reached that zone OK but after that it was just more aimless wandering. We found ourselves back at the battle ground and decided to give it a go and, despite poor odds, we were given the final co-ords

With hindsight it was quite an enjoyable walk in a great location but we clocked up over four miles aimlessly wandering and not knowing if we would ever be given the final location.

I have uploaded my GWS file, although it didn't ask for the completion code. I enjoyed the walk although I can see it causing problems to a cacher just turning up to do it - we did need some hints regarding the best direction to walk in. I think that the map mentioned on the cache page will be needed, although I don't think that it is available yet.
I have now been back twice and completed the highest level. Including the Scouts, I believe that I have managed to find all the hot spots, although I did need a little help - in particular to find the Mercian Archers who, I think, had wandered off to help with the fire fighting on Monday.
Frustrating at first but once I got into it, I have enjoyed my walks around the area.
