About This Cartridge

For those Geo-cachers who may not be familiar with the Aussie drop bear menace, these terrifying creatures, a not so distant cousin to koalas but with sharp claws and fangs, generally hide in trees during the day, sleeping on the upper branches out of sight. But in the evening and throughout the night, they hunt by waiting for an unsuspecting victim to walk under the tree.
Australian cities are currently in the grip of terror due to a recent outbreak of drop bears. For unknown reasons - possibly due to logging and urban sprawl having reduced their natural bush habitat - more and more drop bears have been sighted in residential suburbs in the last couple of years. Furthermore, a larger than usual number of drop bear attacks on people have been reported in the last six months.
We need your help to catch the recently sighted drop bear in Brush Farm Park.

Starting Location

Second time for us on the same day four years ago when we also got to the end and couldn’t find where to unlock the key. Getting chewed by mozzies so will complete log later.

About 20 minutes later and we have escaped from the mozzie tornado (must not have used enough vegemite cream!). And we have smiles on our faces. And handprints on our foreheads from severe head slaps. Four years ago on this very day we traipsed through this thick bush, set off the smoke bombs, radioed into the ranger and finally caught the cheeky critter. But back then we could not for the life of us work out how to get the GZ coordinates. Turns out a bit of patience as all we needed and the GZ coordinates were available just like every other step had been. Aarrggh!!!

Today we sorted ourselves out and a bit of packing a around soon revealed this very cleverly and securely hidden container. All safe and dry. A favourite for us. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

The cartridge played ok and once I got the hang of the menu structure as it slowly built up over the course of the Wherigo it made sense and was handy to be able to move around when I needed to double check directions or whatever. The map was a little bit frustrating but usable. The plot was not as thought out as it could have been as there were a few unnecessary moments and the conclusion was a little unsatisfying but technically it was fine and I would recommend it to other newbie Wherigo cachers as a good place to start.

I find the Wherigo upload format and website quite un-user friendly. For example it is not easy figuring out how to do a search of Wherigos in NSW! Plus I have an unlock code here but it doesn't seem to work. GS claim that the Whereigo won't work on an iPhone but that's what I've been using, and successfully enough - however I cannot log onto this site on my iPhone and thus the site doesn't help me out in the field. It's like Wherigo is broken or something but by all accounts, it appears GS is happy with the format and that everything is good. I just find the whole format really clumsy. It could actually be really awesome.

This wherigo cartridge was completed by us on 11th April 2017, but the stupid wherigo website rejects our unlock code. Anyway uploading our "completed" log regardless.

Today we headed over to Meadowbank to do a variety of caches, a Multi, an EarthCache, a couple of Wherigos, and a few Traditionals. This was our 8th of 8 finds for the day.

For our last cache of the day we stopped off at Brush Farm Park for this Wherigo. Parked the geomobile at the starting coords and, with the game cartridge loaded & running on our ipad air2, we were off on our adventure.

We found ourselves walking deep into the bush reserve, following the network of tracks and "backtracking" along many of them at times, until we finally herded that elusive drop bear into the final GZ location. But actually finding the drop bear, err cache container, took us much longer than we expected. This was mainly due to the incorrect container size being specified in the published cache listing. The cache container is actually a Micro size (less than 100 ml) and NOT the Regular size that's listed in the cache listing.

Anyway we eventually uncovered the hide in a spot we had looked at early on in our search, but had dismissed it after checking in all of the spots that a Regular sized container could be stashed. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found.

Thanks acaconly for the nice bush walk, and for setting up this Wherigo cache and final GZ hide.

First Wherigo ever, very excited to give this one a go. App down loaded, cartridge down loaded, bestest Geobuddy beside me, we are ready to attempt it. Round and round like teddy bears rather than drop bears. All seemed to be going to plan and instructions where followed. A slide and fall down the creek bank had the GZ found with Snickersallan

800th cache woohoo!! I wanted something special - and this was great!

this one was a lot of fun. I did it over two days (very hot in Sydney) and had a bit of trouble following the directions, at one stage I had whereigo, a compass, & geocaching compass all going at the same time trying to figure out where I needed to be. The map on the whereigo is very dodgy & putting the coords into geocaching didn't help much either. Then I had an "AHA!" moment and found a page on whereigo which had a compass - which made life a lot easier (couldn't figure out how to change the miles to kms though..... but... on I went).

I enjoyed this whereigo, a nice length and plenty of interaction - loved the camera work. TFTC
