I grew up in Salem but moved away in 2001 when I joined the Navy. After seeing a local cacher (TraditionalBill) from down here in South Jersey had recently gone up to my old stomping ground I was determined to go up and reclaim my throne by completing all the caches he did and then some. (Not really too difficult as he pretty much only does NON-traditionals lol)

As I started this tour, I was determined to set a land speed record on it since I figured that I already knew where everything was located. I knew about everything except for the bell by the visitor center. That must have been placed there in the last few years. Needless to say it did take me quite a while despite knowing exactly where to go simply due to the distance covered here. Just walking down to the lighthouse and back is the better part of a mile!

It was a nice walk though. I actually took a little detour by the customs house though. If you walk up Orange St to Curtis St the 2 story gray house that is 3rd back from Derby St was actually in my family for nearly 100 years. 5 years ago the last remaining family member residing in the house passed away which meant the house needed to be sold and divided between his heirs. It was sad to see it go. It was like a time capsule inside while we were cleaning it out. Him and his brothers were all WWII vets so I naturally got all their military paraphernalia. The new owner has definitely done some work on it!

Alright this has gone on long enough and I am starting to ramble about my trip down memory lane. I would recommend this cache for everyone! 5 stars for sure!
