The parking at the start wasn't accessible because of some rail-road related festivities. We parked a bit further down the road and walked back to the station where the Wherigo could start. Then we walked to the first real WP where we had to look something up. Easy peasy and on to the next. Beautiful castle, pity it can't be better visited. From then on the way continued uphill, steep (but short) at first. :-) The information at WP3 was also not difficult to find and we continued to the next. There we had to hurry up. I rushed to the finish while my wife and kid followed leisurely. :-) We all walked leisurely to the next waypoint. Very peaceful and quiet along the way. Having reached our next goal, disaster struck. For some unexplainable reason all progress on the Wherigo cartridge was wiped out. Even a previously saved game brought nothing back. WT* !! :-(( Two options now : abandon it all or restart from the station. Since we were doing the tour with our boy in a stroller, the only sensible option was for me to go back to square one and do it all over again, while my wife and kid waited for me. :-( I ran about half of the way so fortunately it didn't take all that long but it was bloody annoying nevertheless. I saved the game at every intermediate point; too bad the cartridge doesn't seem to have any auto-saves built in.
It seems I didn't get the question asked about the lower-case word as all my answers were wrong until I got it right by sheer luck. The path we had to follow to continue this cache was so muddy as to make it impassable with a stroller. I looked at the map and saw a short detour that looked like a much better option. Unfortunately it was a private passage owned by the local water company. But guess what ? I saw a vehicle from that company parked nearby. The driver was eating his lunch. I decided him to ask about taking that path. The friendly guy said it wasn't a big deal; the chain was only there to keep motorized traffic and cyclists out. Hikers were no problem. And so we arrived cleanly at the next point. A nice place with a good, wide view towards the Bocq. My hope of also arriving with a clean stroller after this, were totally shattered. :-) The terrain was so annoying to traverse I nearly launched the stroller into a trajectory up there with our GPS satellites. ;-) Mind you, I loved this stretch, just not with a stroller. One last easy question to answer and the road to the cache lay open. I reached the end zone without any difficulties but the cache itself was really something else. Very difficult to spot, especially since the spoiler pic isn't actual anymore. It doesn't really look like that at all anymore. I'd say to my fellow cachers : focus on the middle tree, then there's a better chance of finding the right place in this little jungle. One more time I had to lift the stroller over something and we could back to the car.
I have really enjoyed this short hike but unfortunately a big part of the fun was spoiled by having to restart about halfway in. I highly recommend building in auto saves to at least give people a better chance of recovery.
Thank you, rouwa !
